vision

"Vision Seekers" / Watercolor © 2009 Mitch Battese

A vision can be many things. It can be a rite of passage, initiation, or other effort made by an individual. It can be a truning point in one's life. Generally, it is a learning process through which anyone can travel, defy time, and eventually find new meanings and directions. Seeking a vision is an individual experience and is often subject to the emotional, spiritual, and physical aspects of a person.

Two individuals ride through haze and uncertianty, undoubtedly destined to experience new and strange sights, sounds, and feelings. It is not for the faint of heart because a quesst can be elusive and mystifying.

3horsemen

Un-named / Oil on canvas board © 2009 Mitch Battese

This un-named painting is oil on canvas and it depicts three figures on horseback resting in a shallow river. the colors are yellow, blacks, and deep greens, and these provide a dramatic backdrop for our three riders. This seemingly peaceful scene becomes more mysterious when we wonder about the motives of the horsemen. Are they hunters or scouts? Perhaps they simply paused to listen to the mysterious sounds coming from the darkened foliage.
